What Streaming Payouts Actually Look Like in 2026

We pulled twelve months of payout statements from nine independent artists. The averages will not surprise you; the variance might.

Per-stream rates remain a distraction. What actually moves independent income is the mix of platforms, territories and formats behind those streams.

The headline number Across the nine artists in our sample, the blended rate landed between $0.0031 and $0.0048 per stream.

Where the variance comes from Territory mix accounted for more variance than platform mix. An artist with a listener base concentrated in high-ARPU markets earned nearly 40% more per stream than a peer with identical volume.

What to do about it Look at your top ten cities, not your top ten tracks. Tour routing, ad spend and release timing should follow the map, not the chart.
